Double Outline Web 2.0 Text Effect

In this tutorial we will learn how to create a cool Web 2.0 style text effect that has double outlines. This style helps to break the text away from any backgrounds regardless of the type of pattern or color.

1. Open a new document in Photoshop. In this tutorial, I went with 450x162 width/height.
2. Choose a font that you like and type the text.

3. Open the layer properties for the Text.
4. Change the "Gradient Overlay" properties to those represented in the image below. Keep in mind, you can choose whichever gradient colors you like, but a nice effect is to have a dark color to a lighter version of the same color. In this case, I decided to go with dark red (maroon) to a red.

5. Change the "Stroke" properties to the following:

6. Click OK and you should have a simple outline text with a gradient fill similar to the image below:

7. Add a new layer below the Type layer.
8. Select the Type layer and click CTRL + E to merge the two layers together. This will remove the Layer Styles and Rasterize the Type.

9. Open the layer properties for the Text.
10. Change the "Drop Shadow" properties to the following:

11. Change the "Stroke" properties to the following:

12. Click OK and you should now have the Double Outline Web 2.0 style text.

13. If you want, you can add a simple reflection.
